Our Story
Maria was born at the start of the decade by a group of friends with shared histories and a unified vision of fun. Both Luis and Rui bring a rich background in design from their time working in agencies, where they accumulated extensive experience in creative fields. In the beginning, their vision was raw and untamed, brimming with pure concepts and primal ideas.
Luis and Rui set out to bring this vision to life, staying true to their original thoughts and ideals. Amidst road trips with friends, surf sessions, and nights out, motorcycles, surfboards, and clothing began to take shape. Their professional backgrounds in design, along with other creative fields such as music, illustration, and documentaries, have kept them immersed in the world of creativity, further enriching their contributions to Maria.

Rui
Meet Rui, one of the founders of Maria Riding Company.
Rui blends the raw energy of surfing, skating, and riding with the precision of quantum mechanics. He’s a loyal friend, an astute listener, and a seeker of cosmic truths, delving into the mysteries of science and existentialism.
An artisan at heart, Rui's work spans custom motorcycles and surfboards, as well as intricate illustrations and animations. No need to find sense, if he finds meaning. He composes music and pounds the drums in a band, channeling the chaos of creativity.
Rui's commitment to craftsmanship is unwavering, infusing each creation with a story of past, passion and heritage. His vision pierces through the ordinary, bringing forth pieces that are as timeless as they are singular and authentic. Growing up in the mountains, Luís developed a passion for tinkering and creating from a young age. He's a master craftsman who can build anything from tables to intricate, custom-engineered pieces. Luis has a lifelong love affair with motorcycles
Meticulous and uncompromising, yet always in good spirits, Luís manages the finances and schedules of the company, ensuring everything runs smoothly. Despite his business acumen, he’s deeply involved in the creative process, bringing his mechanical talents and innovative ideas to every project.
A reserved individual, Luís opens up through his passions, whether it’s crafting, photography, or daring new ventures. He’s a fearless creator, unafraid to take risks and push boundaries. As a father of three, he balances his immense work ethic with his dedication to family, embodying the spirit of hard work and relentless pursuit of dreams.
